Krabi: The Minister of Agriculture confirmed that the 3.5-magnitude earthquake in Nuea Khlong District, Krabi Province, did not affect the stability of irrigation dams in the area after inspecting all five medium-sized water storage dams and finding them to be in normal condition.
According to Thai News Agency, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Narumon Pinyosinwat, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, revealed that from the earthquake on April 14, 2025 at 2:27 p.m., the epicenter was in Tambon Khlong Khem, Amphoe Nuea Khlong, Krabi Province, measuring 3.5 and 2 kilometers deep, the Royal Irrigation Department, by the Engineering and Geological Survey Office, Krabi Irrigation Project, Irrigation Office 15, reported that the highest acceleration measured from the vibration was 0.03913 g, which is lower than the standard design value of the dam that can support up to 0.2 g.
Medium-sized dams in Krabi Province that are under investigation include Khlong Haeng Dam, Mueang District (23.8 km from the epicenter of the earthquake), Huai Luk Dam, Plai Phraya District (66 km), Khlong Ya Dam, Plai Phraya District (56.5 km), Bang Kam Prung Dam, Khao Phanom District (33 km), and Huai Nam Khieo Dam, Khlong Thom District (23 km). All are in normal condition, no damage or impact on the stability of the dam and its buildings was found. It was designed to safely withstand earthquakes of magnitude 7-7.5.
In this regard, the Royal Irrigation Department has been instructed to closely monitor information to assure people living near the dam that the dam remains strong and safe.
