Labour Minister Responds to PM Policies on Caring for Women Workers’ Benefits on International Women’s Day

Labour Minister Mr. Suchart Chomklin revealed that March 8 is International Women’s Day. The government, under the leadership of Prime Minister and Minister of Defense General Prayuth Chan-ocha, and Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan, gives importance to the protection and development of the quality of life of women workers, including supporting women to be treated fairly and equally, benefiting from employment, with happiness and good quality of life.

Mr. Suchart continued that the Ministry of Labour has responded to the government’s policy to ensure women workers’ rights in many areas to promote women’s roles and equality, fairness, and good quality of life. The Social Security Office has added benefits, whereby the Social Security Fund has increased the maternity allowance from 13,000 Baht to 15,000 Baht. Child allowance has increased from 600 Baht to 800 Baht per month, and antenatal care according to the criteria has increased from 1,000 Baht to 1,500 Baht. There are also free health checks, breast health checks, and cervical cancer screening for insured persons, including health promotion and prevention with influenza vaccines to protect women workers and ensure access to social security.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and public health safety measure, this year, the Ministry of Labour’s Department of Labour Protection and Welfare did not organize the “International Women’s Day” event for women who are key forces in creating value and success for businesses. However, it doesn’t stop promoting women’s empowerment or praising the greatness of women. The Ministry of Labour takes this matter very seriously. This year, there was a contest to produce communication media for society on the topic of “Women’s power to turn the Thai economic crisis .”It will accept submissions from now until March 25. Interested parties can inquire at the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare.

“On this year’s International Women’s Day, I would like to give encouragement to all women. In addition to taking care of families, women have great potential and power to drive the country’s economy. The government and the Ministry of Labour will ensure to protect the rights and benefits of women following the relevant laws, to receive appropriate welfare with an improved quality of life. Women are an important force in the country’s development to move forward together,” concluded Mr. Suchart.
