Bangkok: The Director-General of the Department of Business Development revealed plans to utilize the nationwide network of local wholesale and retail stores to drive the "Thai Helps Thai x Local Low Cost" project. Through over 130 stores and 800 branches, prices of consumer goods will be reduced by up to 60% from August 1st to 15th. This aims to lower the cost of living for citizens, create market opportunities for local entrepreneurs and SME products, and stimulate the grassroots economy.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Poonpong Naiyanapakorn, Director-General of the Department of Business Development, revealed after chairing a meeting to prepare for the "Thai Helps Thai x Local Low Cost" project that the Department of Business Development, in collaboration with the Office of the Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion (OSMEP), the Thai Wholesale and Retail Trade Association, manufacturers, distributors, and local wholesale and retail businesses nationwide, are preparing to hold simultaneous discount sales events from August 1-15, 2026. More than 130 local stores, totaling 800 branches, will participate.
This project builds upon the Ministry of Commerce's measures to manage the cost of living by fostering cooperation between manufacturers, distributors, and local wholesalers and retailers. The goal is to provide citizens with access to essential consumer goods at affordable prices, while supporting the "Thai Helps Thai Plus 60/40" policy and facilitating widespread access to purchase goods for holders of the state welfare card.
The project will offer essential daily necessities such as rice, fish sauce, seasoning sauces, and other consumer goods at special prices, with discounts of up to 60%, to help alleviate the burden of living costs for the public while stimulating domestic purchasing power and spending.
Furthermore, it provides opportunities for SMEs and community product manufacturers in each area to sell their products through a network of participating local stores at special prices, thereby expanding market channels, distributing income to communities, and strengthening the grassroots economy.
Mr. Poonpong stated that this project not only helps reduce the financial burden on the public but also increases sales for local wholesalers, retailers, and convenience stores. It connects the supply chain from producers and distributors to consumers, giving local entrepreneurs the opportunity to expand their customer base and enhance their competitiveness. Meanwhile, producers and SMEs gain greater access to markets.
The Ministry of Commerce is scheduled to officially launch the "Thai Helps Thai x Local Low Cost" project on August 1, 2026, at Tang Ngisun Superstore, Na Dee branch, Udon Thani Province. Simultaneously, nationwide discount events will be held. It is expected that this will help reduce the cost of living for citizens, increase money circulation in the economic system, and continuously support the growth of the grassroots economy.
