(LEAD) Police book 2 men for leaving notes deriding victims of deadly car crash in Seoul

Police have booked two men for leaving deriding notes at the site of this week's deadly car crash in central Seoul that killed nine people and injured seven others, officials said Friday. On Monday night, a sedan driven by a 68-year-old darted in the wrong direction for some 200 meters on a one-way road near Seoul City Hall before crashing into sidewalk guardrails, striking pedestrians and ramming into two other cars. The Seoul Namdaemun Police Station said the man in his 20s turned himself in Thursday as images spread online of his message left at the crash site where people have laid flowers to mourn the victims. It was also featured in media reports. Police tracked down another man in his 40s for leaving a similar note at the crash site earlier in the day. Both men have been booked on charges of defaming the deceased. Separately, the cybercrime investigation unit at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has launched a preliminary probe into three online posts deriding the victims, officials said. "We plan to continue investigating the detailed motive and circumstances of the crime," an official said. Source: Yonhap News Agency
