According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Mr. Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, shared insights into the trial opening of the M6 expressway's new section from Bang Pa-In to Pak Chong. Spanning around 110 kilometers, this section opened to the public at noon on Friday, August 21, 2026, and saw a steady rise in traffic without any reported accidents. The newly operational stretch cuts travel time from Bang Pa-In to Nakhon Ratchasima by up to two hours.
Traffic data from the weekend of August 21-23, 2026, indicates that over 60,000 vehicles used the M6, easing congestion on Phahonyothin and Mittraphap roads by 20-30%. This reflects a positive public response to the new route, which is closely monitored by the Ministry of Transport for its impact on traffic distribution across major roads.
Mr. Pipat emphasized that the M6 aims to provide travelers with more options and better connectivity to existing major roads, reducing congestion and enhancing the highway network's overall efficiency. The newly opened section facilitates travel from Bangkok through key areas like Wang Noi, Saraburi, and Pak Chong, before connecting with the existing Pak Chong - Nakhon Ratchasima section to distribute traffic across the Northeast.
Key connection points in Saraburi and nearby areas extend travel options towards northern regions, including Lopburi and Phetchabun. The Pak Chong toll plaza provides access to the Pak Chong-Khao Yai National Park, while connections at Sikhiu, Kham Thale So, and Nakhon Ratchasima enable convenient travel across the Northeast.
The M6 section between Bang Pa-In and Pak Chong is open every weekend from noon on Friday to midnight on Sunday, toll-free. The route will close during weekdays to expedite completion of remaining work. The upcoming trial weekend begins at noon on Friday, August 28, and continues until midnight on Sunday, August 30, 2026.
