M82 Motorway Opens for Free Trial Service

Bangkok: The Department of Highways is set to inaugurate the M82 elevated motorway, offering free trial services for commuters. The new 25-kilometer route, stretching from Bang Khun Thian to Ban Phaeo, will be accessible around the clock starting Friday, August 28, 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Transport has announced the opening of an additional 16.4 kilometers of the M82 motorway, expanding from Ekachai to Ban Phaeo. This extension ensures continuous travel along the entire motorway, enhancing connectivity from the Bang Khun Thian interchange through Ekachai to Ban Phaeo.

The motorway features four key entry and exit points: Phanthai Norasingh Checkpoint, Mahachai Checkpoint 1, Mahachai 2 Checkpoint, and Ban Phaeo Checkpoint. This development is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on Rama 2 Road and provide an additional travel route to the southern region.

Motorists should note that the speed limit is set at 80 km/h for cars and 65 km/h for trucks and buses. Pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles of all engine sizes, tricycles, and all other wheeled vehicles are prohibited on the M82 elevated highway. The Samut Sakhon Toll Plaza 1 and Samut Sakhon Toll Plaza 2 remain under construction and are not yet operational.

During the trial period, the motorway will not charge any toll fees and will be open 24/7. The Department of Highways urges drivers to adhere strictly to traffic signs and officials' instructions to ensure safe travel. For route information or emergencies, commuters can contact the helpline at 1586, available 24 hours a day.
