Mae Sot:Mae Sot residents are expressing alarm as bullets and rockets from ongoing clashes in Myanmar have crossed into Thai territory, causing damage and fear among villagers. Recently, a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) landed on a civilian home, prompting the Thai military to respond with warning shots and a statement of readiness to retaliate if such incidents continue.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred around 130 AM along the Thai-Myanmar border in Myawaddy District, Kayin State, Myanmar. The clashes, which have been escalating, are directly opposite Huai Maha Wong village in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand. The area is located along the Moei River, which forms the border between the two countries. Myanmar troops have intensified their efforts to suppress armed resistance groups, leading to heavy exchanges of gunfire and explosions that are audible across the border.
The RPG rocket, whose origin is unknown, exploded in Mahawan Village, causing significant alarm among residents, although no injuries were reported. Villagers were forced to take shelter in bunkers overnight. In response, the Rajamangala Task Force fired a warning shot across the border, signaling their readiness to retaliate if further attacks occur on Thai soil.
The atmosphere in Ban Mae Kon Ken village and nearby areas remains tense, with villagers still reeling from the overnight events. Despite the heightened threat, local shops and schools in high-risk areas have remained open, albeit with increased military presence and patrols. Additionally, security measures at the border have been reinforced. This morning, the Naresuan Task Force shared images on Facebook of the Rajamanu Task Force working to repair damage to homes caused by the conflict.
