Man Arrested for Ketamine Possession and Intent to Sell at Bangkok Checkpoint

Bangkok: Police arrested a man transporting ketamine at a checkpoint and conducted a breathalyzer test. His suspicious behavior led him to throw away the drugs. He confessed to buying them to resell.

According to Thai News Agency, traffic police arrested Mr. Piyapong, 37, with approximately 1,060 grams of ketamine during an alcohol checkpoint on Ratchadaphisek Road in Din Daeng District, Bangkok. The suspicious vehicle was observed driving in the second lane from the left and suddenly changing to the far right lane. The driver then rolled down the right-side window and threw an object onto the median. Officers ordered the vehicle to stop and instructed Mr. Piyapong to get out for a search. Initially, no illegal items were found on his person or in the vehicle. The arresting officers then inspected the object Mr. Piyapong had thrown and confirmed it was ketamine.

Upon questioning, Mr. Piyapong confessed that the substance belonged to him. He stated that he purchased it from a drug dealer known only as "Fern" for 110,000 baht and intended to resell it for 15,000-16,000 baht per gram but was apprehended before he could do so. Mr. Piyapong was then taken to Sutthisan Police Station for a preliminary drug test, which came back positive. The arresting officers then charged him with "Possession of a Category 2 psychotropic substance (ketamine) with intent to sell without permission and consumption of a Category 2 psychotropic substance (ketamine)." Mr. Piyapong confessed to all charges.
