Man Surrenders After Murdering and Burning 68-Year-Old Uncle

Muak lek: Unable to bear the hunger any longer, the man who murdered and burned his 68-year-old uncle came down from the mountain to surrender to police.

According to Thai News Agency, the man who murdered and burned 68-year-old Uncle Bua has surrendered to police. He fled into the mountains after the crime but eventually, unable to bear the hunger and thirst, he descended and sought help from a friend who took him to the police station.

The murder and burning of 68-year-old Mr. Bua, a resident of Muak Lek District, Saraburi Province, has been reported. Police found his body near a village pavilion in Samsomphung Subdistrict, Muak Lek District, on the morning of July 15th. The body was severely burned, with only the right leg remaining partially charred. The skull showed signs of being violently struck. Police suspect the perpetrator knew the victim well and attempted to rob him. When the victim resisted, a struggle ensued, during which the perpetrator struck him on the head with a wooden stick, rendering him motionless, before setting the body on fire.

Later, around 10 PM last night (July 16th), someone brought Mr. Surachat, or Yaem, to Muak Lek Police Station. Mr. Yaem was in a very exhausted state.

The elderly man who brought him back recounted that after committing the crime, Mr. Yaem fled up the mountain behind his house. Around 8 PM, Mr. Yaem came down to him, exhausted, and asked for food and water, requesting that he contact the police to turn himself in.

Mr. Yaem confessed that he and Mr. Bua had an argument over money and a loan. Mr. Bua allegedly struck Mr. Yaem with a stick first, but Mr. Yaem fought back, striking Mr. Bua on the head with the stick until he was motionless. Believing Mr. Bua was dead, Mr. Yaem then burned the body using dry wood and scraps of clothing found nearby as fuel. Villagers discovered the body the following morning. After surrendering to the police, Mr. Yaem was immediately taken into custody for questioning.
