Melbourne: An Australian court has detained Hermena for another trial on October 12th, after prosecutors and defense attorneys began discussing ways to settle the case.
According to Thai News Agency, foreign news agencies reported on the progress of the case of Ms. Meena Kondo, or Air Meena, a Thai Airways flight attendant accused of smuggling heroin into Australia. Discussions are currently underway to find a solution to the case. Ms. Meena appeared before Melbourne Magistrates' Court this morning (local time).
Both the prosecution and defense requested a postponement of the hearing from Judge Kieran Gilligan, informing the court that both sides had begun discussing a solution and needed time for the process to proceed. Judge Gilligan said the progress was welcome and ordered Ms. Meena to remain in custody, scheduling her next court appearance for October 12.
News reports indicate that Ms. Meena has been charged with two serious offenses: importing narcotics in quantities intended for commercial purposes and possessing narcotics in quantities intended for commercial purposes. Under Australian law, both charges carry a maximum penalty of 25 years imprisonment if found guilty.
Clint Sims, commander of the Australian Border Force (ABF), revealed that the ABF is aware that criminal groups have targeted airline crews in an attempt to smuggle drugs into the country. The ABF continues to monitor the situation and conduct investigations.
