Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding impending summer storms expected to impact the upper regions of Thailand from April 29 to May 1, 2025. The announcement, which marks Issue 11 (104/2025), highlights the potential for thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy rain in some areas, with lightning also posing a risk.
According to Thai News Agency, the adverse weather conditions are attributed to a moderate high-pressure area from China, which has extended over Vietnam and the South China Sea. This has resulted in a line of southeasterly and southwesterly winds covering the upper part of Thailand. Additionally, a westerly wind wave from Myanmar is moving across the northern and upper northeastern regions, coinciding with existing hot conditions in the area.
Residents in the affected provinces are advised to exercise caution during the storms, particularly in open areas, under large trees, near unstable structures, and around weak billboards. Farmers are encouraged to fortify their fruit trees and prepare to protect agricultural products and livestock from potential damage.
The specific provinces expected to experience the effects of the summer storms on April 29, 2025, include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and several others in the northern, northeastern, and central regions. On April 30, 2025, the storms are forecasted to affect many of the same provinces, with the addition of Saraburi in the central region. By May 1, 2025, the conditions are expected to persist across these areas, with a slight shift in affected provinces.
The Meteorological Department urges the public to stay informed and heed any further updates and warnings as the situation develops.
