Bangkok: The Minister of Education, Mr. Prasert Chantarawong, has called on Suan Dusit University to urgently address the concerns surrounding Ms. Chanatda Worasan, known as Teacher Nim, and her appointment as a teacher. The outcome of these proceedings will determine whether Teacher Nim will be permanently employed in the education sector.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasert emphasized the importance of swift action in resolving the issue. The controversy began when Ms. Worasan, who was initially the top-ranked candidate in the physics subject group, witnessed her ranking drop to second place after a re-examination of scores conducted by the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC). This re-evaluation was initiated following an error in the initial score announcement by Suan Dusit University.
The Minister assured that the situation is being handled with urgency, reiterating that while no specific timeline has been established, the matter demands immediate attention due to the ongoing recruitment process. He also highlighted that compensation should be considered for Teacher Nim due to the discrepancies in the grading results.
In parallel, the Ministry of Education is preparing for the upcoming debate on the 2027 budget bill, where the Pheu Thai Party is set to present its arguments. Mr. Prasert expressed his openness to listening to the opposition's viewpoints during the budget debate, particularly concerning the Ministry of Education's substantial allocation, much of which goes towards personnel costs. He acknowledged every Member of Parliament's right to discuss and debate any ministry's budget, underscoring his readiness to consider suggestions from all political factions.
