Minister of Industry Inspects Illegal Electronic Waste Facility in Prachinburi

Prachinburi:Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa recently inspected an illegal electronic waste recycling plant, expressing his dismay over the unlawful operations and coordination efforts underway to address the situation. He is working with the Immigration Bureau, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), and the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to track down those responsible and investigate related financial transactions.

According to Thai News Agency, the inspection team included several officials and local representatives who visited the premises of MY Metal Co., Ltd. in Sri Maha Pho District. The factory had been previously investigated for illegal expansions and operating without the necessary permits. Varawut noted concerns over possible encroachment on protected forest land and the improper disposal of electronic waste mixed with soil, raising environmental alarms.

The Ministry of Industry is actively working towards eliminating illegal factories across Thailand. Varawut emphasized that investigations will be expedited, with nearly 3,000 factories under scrutiny for proper licensing. Coordination with various government departments and law enforcement is ongoing to ensure swift action against violators.

During the inspection, Varawut also addressed an incident at Green Environment Technology Co., Ltd., where an oil spill occurred due to inadequate storage measures during flooding. The factory has been ordered to cease operations, and the Ministry will closely monitor for any illegal activities. If suspicious activities are observed, the public is encouraged to report them for legal action.

Furthermore, Varawut discussed amendments to the Factory Act, aiming to introduce stricter penalties and measures to classify such cases as financial crimes. This would empower agencies to seize assets of offending businesses and revoke licenses for repeat offenders, enhancing regulatory enforcement and environmental protection.
