Minister of Labor Launches Occupational Safety Officer Day Focusing on Workplace Safety and Accident Reduction

Bangkok: The Minister of Labor opened the Occupational Safety Officer (OSO) Day 2026, emphasizing workplace safety and accident reduction, and preparing to campaign for safe driving during the New Year period, joining forces with four transportation organizations. Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labor, presided over the opening ceremony of “November 12th, Safety Officer (SSO) Day, Fiscal Year 2026” and kicked off the “Safe Transport Together” project. She also witnessed the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on enhancing transportation management standards between four organizations: the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare, the Department of Land Transport, the Thai National Shippers’ Council, and the Land Transport Federation of Thailand. The signing ceremony aims to promote a safety culture and establish safety standards in the transportation system, as well as reduce travel accidents. al safety network, and relevant sectors attended the event at the Labor Safety Division (Taling Chan Intersection), Bangkok.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Trinuch stated that the Ministry of Labor prioritizes comprehensive occupational safety to ensure a good quality of life for all workers and sustainable business operations. This includes strict enforcement of the law, education provision, and the development of network mechanisms. The goal is to reduce serious occupational accidents from 2.03 per 1,000 workers to 1 per 1,000 workers by 2030. Therefore, occupational safety officers (OSOs) are a key force in ensuring the safety of workers and workplaces, contributing to the creation of a culture of organizational safety and reducing the risk of occupational accidents.

Captain Saroj Khomkhai, Director-General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare (DLPW), added that today’s activities will also include awarding honors to outstanding safety professionals and outstanding businesses to boost morale and encourage them. The Ministry of Labor has also launched the “Safer Transportation Together” project to reduce vehicle accidents during the upcoming New Year holiday. The project will examine three main factors contributing to accidents: 1. Vehicle readiness, 2. Personnel readiness, and 3. Route safety, particularly for buses, non-scheduled buses, private buses, non-scheduled trucks, and school buses.
