Bangkok: The Ministry of Agriculture has reiterated its commitment to fully compensate farmers affected by the ongoing border unrest. The Permanent Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. Winaroj Traiphongsuk, has emphasized the urgency of safety measures and assistance for those impacted by the clashes at the Thai-Cambodian border.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Winaroj has mandated the evacuation of ministry officials from the southern Isan border provinces, including Surin, Sisaket, Ubon Ratchathani, and Buriram, to ensure their safety amid rising tensions. The ministry is actively coordinating with relevant agencies to assist the public, stressing that the safety of officials and citizens is paramount.
Mr. Winaroj highlighted the ministry’s readiness to provide compensation and support to farmers if their agricultural activities suffer due to the unrest. The compensation will adhere to government regulations, aiming to alleviate the challenges faced by agricultural workers.
“We have ordered our officials to relocate to safe areas until the situation returns to normal. We have also urged them to expedite assistance to the public and farmers, with safety as the primary priority. The Ministry of Agriculture is closely monitoring the situation 24/7 to plan assistance as quickly as possible,” stated Mr. Winaroj.
