Bangkok: The Ministry of Education has introduced the 'Edusafe School' system, a digital innovation designed to connect directly to Google Earth with a single button press for immediate assistance during emergencies. This initiative aims to enhance safety measures within educational institutions.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasert Chantharawongthong, Minister of Education, led the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote safety and creative spaces in schools. The collaboration involves the Ministry of Education, through the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), and over 18 partner agencies. The ceremony took place at the Bunyaket Meeting Room, Teachers' Council Auditorium.
Mr. Prasert highlighted the significance of the MOU, which unites 18 organizations to drive school safety policies collectively. The initiative's primary goal is to transform schools into safe and creative spaces, enhancing student happiness as a top priority for the Ministry of Education.
The 'Edusafe School' system, unveiled during the event, is a user-friendly digital safety tool accessible via smartphones. In emergencies, users can press an SOS button, connecting the system to Google Earth to determine the exact location, record audio, and transmit data to a 24-hour control center. The system also integrates with the "Rights Protection Center" to offer psychological and legal support in a comprehensive one-stop service format. The Minister emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach across sectors for sustainable safety improvements, moving beyond mere budget allocation.
This initiative represents a significant effort to unite government sectors in addressing school vulnerabilities, including physical violence, drug abuse, accidents, and sophisticated online threats. Key agencies, such as the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Interior, Royal Thai Police, and Equitable Education Fund, totaling 18 agencies, are involved in closing gaps and tackling these challenges. Teachers, students, parents, and educational personnel are encouraged to report incidents or complaints through Ministry-provided channels for rapid assistance.
