Bangkok: The Ministry of Energy has launched an Energy Emergency Situation Monitoring Center (ICS) in response to the ongoing unrest along the Thai-Cambodian border. The initiative aims to ensure adequate energy supply in high-risk areas and support military operations in the region.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthapol Rerkpiboon, the Minister of Energy, announced that Mr. Prasert Sinsukprasert, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, will lead the monitoring operations as the incident commander. The Ministry has instructed provincial energy offices in high-risk zones to provide immediate updates on the situation. This enables timely assessment of risks and implementation of preventive or corrective measures to maintain uninterrupted energy management, particularly in shelters and critical areas.
Mr. Atthapol highlighted the importance of protecting vital energy infrastructure, including power plants and oil storage facilities, and stressed the need for all agencies to review their emergency plans. He emphasized close coordination with military units to prevent potential sabotage or damage. The Ministry is working with the Department of Energy Business (DOEB) to ensure advance preparations for oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) delivery and real-time situation assessments.
The Energy Minister underscored the priority of national energy security and the need to minimize disruptions to the public. He called for cooperation from the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and PTT Group to supply essential resources to shelters and military units. Designated centers have been set up to ensure sufficient fuel for military operations, with a focus on maintaining public safety.
