Bangkok: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on the one-year anniversary of the Thai-Cambodian border clashes, emphasizing that Thailand did not initiate the conflict and has consistently attempted to exercise restraint.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Jaithai Upakarnnitikaset, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, revealed that the conflict between the two countries was not initiated by Thailand, nor did it occur. Thailand has exercised utmost restraint throughout. It is a matter between governments that should not involve the public and cause them hardship. This is not the time for accusations for the benefit of one side or the other, but rather to remember the losses that should not be repeated and to reiterate the importance and necessity of finding a sustainable solution together. This includes alleviating the suffering of the people, which is a crucial responsibility of the government. Cambodia's actions in this manner do not help resolve the problem and further undermine the efforts of both sides to find a common solution.
Over the past two to three days, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkaew took the opportunity during his participation in the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting and related meetings in Manila to clarify the facts regarding the Thai-Cambodian situation to various friendly nations. He also emphasized Thailand's commitment and sincerity in moving forward to resolve the issues peacefully and sustainably, which requires a constructive and sincere response from the Cambodian side as well.
