Bangkok: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a condemnation against Cambodia following an incident where Cambodian forces reportedly opened fire on the Thai side and used civilians as human shields. The Ministry emphasized that no casualties resulted from the confrontation and stressed that Thailand’s response complied with international law and was defensive in nature.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nikorndej Plangkura, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided details about the border clash that occurred in Ban Nong Ya Kaeo, Khok Sung District, Sa Kaeo Province. He confirmed that Cambodian soldiers initiated gunfire in the border area, prompting a response from the Royal Thai Army.
The Thai forces reportedly took cover and returned warning shots towards the source of the gunfire, adhering to legal standards. The altercation lasted for approximately 10 minutes before the situation de-escalated, with no reported injuries or fatalities on the Thai side.
