Bangkok: The Ministry of Interior has urgently ordered governors nationwide to implement four measures to enhance public safety. The directive comes in the wake of a tragic shooting incident at an educational institution in Nonthaburi province, which resulted in numerous deaths and injuries. The Ministry is taking proactive steps to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, has disclosed that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has mandated an upgrade of security measures and firearms control. The aim is to bolster the safety of lives and property in educational institutions and public areas across the nation.
Mr. Arsit detailed that the Ministry of Interior has instructed all provincial governors to work in conjunction with administrative mechanisms, the police, and relevant agencies to comprehensively enhance four key measures. These measures are designed to improve the safety of citizens, particularly in educational institutions and public spaces.
Firstly, as part of the efforts, the Provincial Governor, serving as the Chairman of the Provincial Education Committee, is tasked with collaborating with various educational and local administrative bodies to strengthen security measures. This includes monitoring potentially violent behaviors, controlling access, preparing for emergencies, and providing psychological support aimed at violence prevention.
Secondly, the initiative calls for the integration of provincial police and related units to establish joint checkpoints and conduct coordinated patrols. These efforts focus on preventing firearms from entering public places, intercepting illegal items, and increasing patrol frequency in high-risk areas. Strict enforcement of relevant laws is emphasized for any violations encountered.
The third measure involves developing a spatial action plan to identify and monitor high-risk areas such as educational institutions, government offices, and public event venues.
Lastly, authorities are encouraged to share information and monitor individuals or groups with a propensity for violence. This involves collaboration with parents, educational institutions, and community networks to report suspicious activities promptly. Immediate coordination with police and relevant units is required for legal action and continuous monitoring.
