Bangkok: The Ministry of Public Health has announced the stockpiling of medicines and medical supplies to manage the ongoing energy crisis for a duration of four months. The ministry has also directed hospitals across the country to enhance their telemedicine systems as a measure to cut down on transportation costs.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Ekachai Piansriwachara, Deputy Permanent Secretary and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Health, discussed the preparedness of the public health sector in facing the economic and energy challenges. He assured that the current reserves of medicines and medical supplies are adequate for approximately 3-4 months. Dr. Ekachai has instructed the Public Health Administration Division to work closely with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and manufacturers to keep a vigilant eye on drug groups that are vulnerable to import and raw material costs. This includes medications for chronic illnesses and psychiatric conditions.
An online database system will be deployed to allow real-time monitoring of stock levels across hospitals of varying capacities. This initiative aims to ensure that drug distribution is well-planned according to regional requirements, thereby preventing any shortages for patients.
