Mobilize to help farmers and livestock affected by floods

The Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development has ordered all livestock offices in flood-affected areas to provide assistance to farmers and livestock. For risk areas, they must be prepared to provide assistance in a timely manner. Currently, assistance is being provided in 4 northern provinces that are severely flooded by deploying personnel to help move livestock to higher ground, provide animal feed, medical supplies, and treat sick animals. The Livestock Disaster Prevention and Resolution Center reported that some animals have died and gone missing. Veterinarian Somchuan Rattanamangkhalanon, Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, said that he has ordered the Livestock Office Region 5, Provincial Livestock Offices, District Livestock Offices, Animal Quarantine Checkpoints, and Animal Feed Research Centers in flood-affected areas and their affiliated agencies in the surrounding areas to provide full assistance to farmers, in accordance with the order of Lt. Col. Tha mmanat Prompao, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, who is concerned about farmers. He has also urged the Provincial Livestock Offices in risk areas to monitor and be ready to provide timely assistance to farmers due to flash floods and overflows in the North due to heavy rain. Initial reports from the Provincial Livestock Offices in the areas have affected farmers in 4 provinces: Nan, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, and Phayao. As of August 22, 2024, the Livestock Disaster Prevention and Resolution Center summarized the assistance provided to disaster victims in livestock in 4 provinces: Nan, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai and Phayao, with a total of 22 districts, 68 sub-districts and 468 villages affected, with 24,724 farmers affected. There were 1,478,861 animals in the flooded areas, divided into 32,460 cows, 6,082 buffalo, 7,633 pigs, 692 goats/sheep and 1,431,994 poultry, including 142 rai of pasture land. As for reports of dead and missing animals in 3 provinces: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai and Nan, they were divided into 9 cows, 7 buffalo, 12 pigs, 36 goats and 538 poultry, for a total of 602 dead/missing animals. The provincial livestock offices in the area and agencies under the Department of Livestock Development provided immediate assistance as follows: evacuating 10,783 animals, providing animal feed 31,615 kilograms, supporting 506 animal health promotion kits, treating 76 animals The latest report this morning (23 August) from the Phrae Provincial Livestock Office is that the city center of Phrae, where the Phrae Provincial Livestock Office is located, has been flooded, causing it to temporarily close. Currently, many farmers' animal husbandry and livestock in Song, Nong Muang Khai, Rong Kwang, Mueang Phrae, Sung Men, and Den Chai districts have been affected. Long and Wang Chin districts are expected to be affected in the next 1-2 days. The Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development added that he has ordered the provincial livestock offices and affiliated agencies in the affected areas and nearby disaster areas to urgently survey the impact and damage to livestock from the floods that occurred immediately after the situation has improved in order to urgently provide assistance and compensation in accordance with the criteria and procedures for providing emergency livestock assistance to disaster victims in accordance with the Ministry of Finance regulations B.E. 2564. In this regard, if livestock farmers want to report an incident or request assistance with livestock, they can report it to the provincial livestock office or district livestock office in the area or request assistance via the DLD 4.0 application 24 hours a day.
