Bangkok: Most Wisarut, the acclaimed actor who portrayed March in the film “A Useful Ghost,” expressed his disappointment after the film failed to represent Thailand at the 98th Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film.
According to Thai News Agency, the National Federation of Motion Pictures and Videos Associations had initially selected the film for submission. However, 185 Films Co., Ltd. later announced that a communication error during the coordination process led to incomplete submission of the necessary documentation to the Academy Awards within the specified timeframe. Despite a subsequent appeal for review, the Academy upheld its decision.
Most Wisarut shared his thoughts with Nine Entertain, reflecting on his experience with the film that had previously garnered acclaim, including winning the Grand Prize AMI Paris at the Cannes Film Festival. As an actor, he felt privileged to be part of such a significant project, describing the opportunity as surreal. He believed the film’s previous success at Cannes should have paved the way for recognition at the Oscars. However, the announcement that the film’s submission was incomplete caught him by surprise, leaving him unaware of the circumstances surrounding the missed opportunity.
The actor expressed his regret for everyone involved in the project, acknowledging the inability to resubmit the film next year. He lamented the lost opportunity but highlighted the film’s numerous awards as a testament to its quality. Most noted the impact of “A Useful Ghost” as a milestone for the Thai film industry, showcasing the talent and potential of Thai filmmakers.
