Hat yai: MP Lisa urged Deputy Interior Minister Sakda to distribute tap water to Hat Yai residents as quickly as possible. At least some areas will have access to water tonight.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Phakamon Nunanon, a party-list MP for the Prachachon Party, has continued her efforts to assist residents in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, for the seventh day. Ms. Phakamon discussed the work plan at Songkhla Rajabhat University and had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Sakda Wichiensin, Deputy Minister of Interior, who oversees the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA), while visiting the Songkhla Rajabhat University evacuation center.
Ms. Phakamon reflected on the urgent hardships of the people she had visited and experienced over the past seven days to the Deputy Minister of Interior. She emphasized the current critical issue of tap water. Although the floodwaters have begun to recede, it remains unclear when residents will be able to use tap water. Despite damage to the water treatment plant and distribution pipes, residents remain in distress and need water. She has requested the Deputy Minister to expedite this matter to alleviate the suffering of residents amid the severe damage throughout the city, allowing them to use the water for cleaning, washing their homes, and allowing residents to return to their homes.
The Deputy Minister of Interior has been informed of the problem and promised to take action to resolve it. It is expected that the Hat Yai Hospital community will have tap water available to the public during the night.
Ms. Phakamon also complained about the city’s excessive garbage problem, urging the urgent deployment of large excavators and numerous large trucks to clear the garbage as quickly as possible. Waste collection routes should be planned and public announcements made to ensure a systematic, rapid, and congested urban revitalization. The Deputy Minister confirmed that he will personally visit the oversight agency today to observe the waste collection operations.
Ms. Phakamon added that today’s mission has highlighted the hardships of the people of Hat Yai and urged them to address the situation with those in authority. She will follow up and expedite the requested cooperation to be implemented as quickly as possible.
The People’s Party’s mission continues today. Ms. Phakamon will deliver generators to people in areas without electricity. At the very least, they will be able to charge mobile phones and stay in touch with relatives. This is considered a “recharging the people” mission. She confirmed that she and the People’s Party are working in every way, including on-site work, coordination, and designing systems that are simple, straightforward, and free of redundancy. Helping the people doesn’t require choosing just one thing. If we can do anything, we should help. However, we must not abandon our hope that the government will be the main driver and take responsibility for quickly restoring normal life to all those affected by the disaster.
