Na Ladprao Brewery Offers Initial Compensation Following Fatal Fire

Bangkok: The Na Ladprao Brewery has announced its intention to provide initial compensation to the families of those who perished in a recent fire, with the company offering 10,000 baht per deceased person from the owner's personal funds. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by police.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nithiruj Chetiyatheeranant, the lawyer representing the brewery, met with investigators at Phaholyothin Police Station and stated that the company is prioritizing compensation for the families of both the deceased and the injured. While the initial payment is 10,000 baht for each family of the deceased, further financial support will be discussed. Compensation plans for the injured are being finalized, although the primary focus remains on the deceased.

Mr. Nithiruj communicated that the compensation is being provided by the brewery itself as the insurance company has not yet assessed the property damage, leaving the overall compensation amount unknown. He assured that the brewery is committed to offering additional support as necessary and is open to discussions with all parties involved.

In terms of insurance coverage, it was noted that the brewery currently holds property insurance, but no coverage for life or injuries. This detail has not been confirmed due to the absence of official documentation. The brewery is actively cooperating with authorities, providing necessary documents, and ensuring full cooperation with the ongoing investigation. Mr. Nithiruj emphasized that human life cannot be valued monetarily, and any further compensation will be determined through discussions.

Mr. Nithiruj addressed allegations of a possible cover-up, stating that he had no prior knowledge and that any cover-up would leave evidence. He underlined the restaurant's focus on victim compensation and stated that potential issues regarding compliance with safety standards would be addressed based on legal outcomes.

In light of the Prime Minister's statement on a possible license revocation, Mr. Nithiruj commented that this would be an administrative matter, not currently prioritized over victim compensation. He expressed that reopening the business or starting anew would require stringent safety measures, though he personally felt it would be inadvisable to resume operations following the incident.

The investigation continues as waitstaff from the brewery have been summoned to give witness statements. Crucial evidence, including CCTV footage from the day of the fire, has been handed to investigators to aid in the ongoing case.
