Chaiyaphum: Nam Phut Thap Lao, a scenic attraction located within the Phu Sam Phak Nam National Forest Reserve in Huai Yang Subdistrict, Khon San District, Chaiyaphum Province, has become a popular spot for tourists looking to escape the heat. With temperatures climbing to 38 degrees Celsius, locals and visitors from neighboring provinces are flocking to this natural retreat, which spans an area of 160 rai.
According to Thai News Agency, Nam Phut Thap Lao is renowned for its clear, clean stream that flows all year round. The spring, considered the most abundant in the region, is formed by the erosion of rocks under the mountain, allowing water to gush from underground at a rate of over 400 cubic meters per hour. This phenomenon is attributed to the absorption and gradual release of water from the forest, which then travels through rock cavities to emerge at the surface. The area is teeming with life, providing a habitat for crabs, fish, and lush vegetation.
The local community has transformed Nam Phut Thap Lao into a tourist destination, offering amenities such as souvenir shops, shaded seating areas, and food stalls serving local delicacies like som tam, grilled chicken, and fish from nearby Chulabhorn Dam. Access to the site is convenient, with a clear route from Highway No. 12 to Highway No. 2055, followed by a paved road leading directly to the arboretum.
Chaiyaphum Province Governor Mr. Anan Nakniyom highlighted the site’s appeal, noting the all-year-round clear water, which is shallow enough for safe play by both children and adults. The 500-meter stretch of water is monitored by safety officers, ensuring a secure environment for visitors. Nam Phut Thap Lao remains an ideal spot for relaxation and cooling off, thanks to its refreshing atmosphere and natural beauty.
