Udon thani: Narong Rakroi, a member of the Election Commission, inspected the readiness of polling stations in Udon Thani's District 3 ahead of the parliamentary by-election scheduled for tomorrow. He anticipates a voter turnout of 63.42% and expects the process to proceed without complaints. Preparations include measures for rain protection.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narong Rakroi, alongside his team, visited various locations in Udon Thani Province to ensure the smooth handover and preparation of election materials for the by-election. The visit included stops at the Saeng Khom and Phen District Office auditoriums, where Mr. Narong observed the distribution of election materials to polling station officials. Officials have been briefed on their duties and have secured the election materials in anticipation of the election.
Mr. Narong expressed confidence in the preparations, noting that the previous election on February 8, 2026, went smoothly, and he expects even better management this time. The Election Commission is introducing improvements and innovations in polling station management to ensure legal compliance and efficiency. These innovations focus on empowering polling station chairpersons to effectively manage their stations.
Regarding concerns, Mr. Narong stated that the primary worry is rain, urging voters in Phen and Saeng Khom districts, as well as Ban Khao subdistrict, to participate in the election. He emphasized the importance of voter turnout and encouraged eligible voters to exercise their rights, despite the by-election's smaller scale.
Mr. Narong also highlighted logistical preparations to mitigate the impact of rain, with polling stations being set up in buildings rather than temporary tents. He mentioned the potential issues tents could pose and the Election Commission's plans to reduce their use in future elections.
Addressing concerns about barcodes on ballots, Mr. Narong clarified that the current election system does not utilize barcodes, and he reassured that the system maintains confidentiality.
Lastly, the Election Commission has issued a stern warning against any form of election campaigning from 6:00 PM on August 29, 2026, until midnight on August 30, 2026. Violators face legal penalties, including imprisonment or fines, as stipulated by the Constitution of the Election of Members of the House of Representatives.
