Nattapong Ruangpanyawut Calls for Five-Day No-Confidence Debate

Accra:Parliament Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, a list MP and leader of the People's Party, has urged the Speaker of the House to convene a meeting to establish a framework for a no-confidence debate, insisting that five days is necessary for proper discussion.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nattapong criticized the government for unilaterally deciding on a three-day debate without consulting the opposition or convening a joint meeting of the political party coordinating committees. He argues that the government is attempting to limit the opposition to just two days for debating 18 ministers.

Citing past examples, Mr. Nattapong noted that during the Prayut regime from 2020 to 2022, debates often spanned four days, with votes on the fifth day. He emphasized the need for the government to adhere to established procedures and stop making assumptions on behalf of the opposition.

Mr. Nattapong also highlighted the importance of the Prime Minister managing their schedule to prioritize parliamentary duties. He stated that the opposition is prepared for the debate, aiming to expose what he describes as the "blue regime" being a threat to democracy.

The opposition plans to address various issues, including budget scrutiny and the appointment of civil servants. Mr. Nattapong stressed the role of the opposition in revealing failures in government administration, even without definitive evidence in some cases.

When questioned about targeting specific ministers, Mr. Nattapong indicated that the extent of scrutiny will become clear during the actual debate in parliament.
