Jerusalem: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Friday that Iran will never possess nuclear weapons as long as he remains prime minister, emphasizing that he and U.S. President Donald Trump share this view fully.
According to Thai News Agency, the Israeli Prime Minister's office issued a statement from Prime Minister Netanyahu stating that although Israel is not a party to the memorandum of understanding, he appreciated President Trump's commitment to ensuring that any final agreement includes limits on Iran's nuclear program and missile capabilities.
The Israeli Prime Minister's statement came at a time when both the United States and Iran were signaling that a ceasefire agreement between the two countries was near. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi revealed Friday night that Iran and the United States would sign a memorandum of understanding to end the war within the next few days.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Israel needs to ensure its ability to act independently in the future to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He also revealed that he and Prime Minister Netanyahu have ordered the Israeli military to prepare for this. The Times of Israel analyzed that the Defense Minister's statement signals that Israel has not ruled out the option of using military force to curb Iran's nuclear program.
Meanwhile, President Trump revealed on Thursday that he had canceled plans for attacks and bombings in Iran because a deal was nearing completion.
