Chiang Rai:The Pha Muang Task Force engaged in a confrontation with a drug trafficking group, resulting in nine deaths and the confiscation of 272 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine.
According to Thai News Agency, Colonel Suphan Roiput, commander of the Taksin Task Force, Pha Muang Command, along with local officials and police officers from Mae Fa Luang Police Station, conducted an inspection at the site of the clash. The incident involved the 1st Cavalry Company of the Taksin Task Force, Pha Muang Command, and a drug trafficking group. The clash led to the deaths of nine traffickers and the seizure of a substantial amount of methamphetamine.
The Taksin Task Force, part of the Pha Muang Force, had been actively monitoring the border area. On the evening of September 28, 2026, near Ban Pang Mahan in Mae Fah Luang District, officers observed a group of 15-17 individuals carrying modified sacks. When officers attempted to search them, the group opened fire, prompting a 10-minute firefight before retreating. The task force then deployed additional teams to secure the area.
The following morning, on September 29, during a survey of the clash site, officers discovered nine deceased traffickers. They also recovered 16 modified sacks containing approximately 272 kilograms of methamphetamine. Intelligence indicated that the traffickers were trying to smuggle the drugs from a neighboring country into Thailand for further distribution.
