Northern Thailand Faces Summer Storms with Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

Bangkok: Northern Thailand is currently experiencing summer storms characterized by thunderstorms and strong winds.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has reported that these weather conditions are expected to persist over the next 24 hours. The storms are attributed to a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China affecting the eastern part of the Northeast and the South China Sea, combined with moisture-laden winds from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Additionally, the region is facing hot weather, exacerbated by a westerly wind wave moving in from Myanmar.

Residents of the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and avoid open spaces, large trees, and unstable structures during the storms. Farmers in particular have been cautioned to reinforce fruit trees and prepare for potential damage to crops and livestock. Meanwhile, the southern region will experience increased rainfall and strong winds due to easterly and southeasterly winds, with the sea waves reaching significant heights.

The current weather conditions have also resulted in moderate to high levels of particulate matter across the northern and central regions, including Bangkok. Mariners are advised to exercise caution and avoid areas with thunderstorms, especially in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea where waves may rise above normal levels.

The weather forecast for March 6, 2026, indicates a 20% chance of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds across various parts of Thailand, with temperatures varying from 14 to 36 degrees Celsius across different regions. The southern regions, both east and west coasts, are predicted to have a 30% chance of thunderstorms, with waves exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas.
