Bangkok: The National Statistical Office (NSO) has implemented stringent measures to prohibit local administrative organizations from hiring contractors with a history of corruption or those who have been removed from the examination list.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Nirat Pongsitthithavorn, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and Acting Director-General of the Department of Local Administration, issued an urgent letter on August 11, 2026, outlining new guidelines for outsourced services by local administrative organizations. This directive was sent to all provincial governors and emphasizes adherence to the Ministry of Interior's guidelines on hiring practices.
The letter addresses recent social media reports concerning the recruitment of individuals removed from competitive examination lists for civil servant or local government positions. The Department of Local Administration, referencing the Code of Ethics for Local Administrators, stresses the importance of honesty, integrity, and adherence to the rule of law. Local administrators are instructed not to engage in or support corruption or actions that could tarnish their position. They are also advised to select contractors based on relevant knowledge and experience.
To ensure adherence to these ethical guidelines, provincial governors are requested to guide local administrators in selecting contractors who comply with legal and ethical standards. The directive aims to prevent the misuse of outsourced services for preferential treatment or regulatory circumvention, thereby maintaining public trust and upholding the integrity of governmental operations.
