According to Thai News Agency, at 9:20 AM on June 17, 2026, a fatal shooting occurred on the 4th floor of the Kalasin Provincial Hall, causing panic among staff who fled in chaos. Inside the provincial military conscription office, the body of Colonel Koravikanon Wongsaunow, the 59-year-old provincial conscription officer, was found. The perpetrator, Lieutenant Chinkorn Wechagama, 59, a district conscription officer in Mueang Kalasin, surrendered to police with his firearm at the scene.
The initial cause of the incident stemmed from Lieutenant Chinkorn's dissatisfaction with his superior's order to transfer him to the Kamalasai district conscription office. He entered the office to negotiate, but a heated argument ensued, leading him to open fire, resulting in the death of Colonel Wongsaunow. Kalasin Governor Suwan Khemthanaphet, along with the Kalasin Provincial Police Commander and forensic officers, have inspected the scene. Police have taken the suspect into custody for intense questioning at Kalasin City Police Station to proceed with legal action.
