“Paethongtarn” visits Sukhothai to give moral support to flood victims

Paethongtarn" and the Pheu Thai Party went to Sukhothai Province to give encouragement to flood victims, saying they will fight together. Locals said they cycled 10 kilometers to meet the Prime Minister. Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister and leader of the Pheu Thai Party, traveled to monitor the situation and water management of the Yom River at the Yom River floodgate (Ban Hat Saphan Chan), Sawankhalok District, Sukhothai Province at 11:00 a.m. She listened to a presentation from officials of the Sukhothai Water Supply and Maintenance Project, Royal Irrigation Department, about the water situation in the area, which receives water from Phrae and Phayao Provinces because there are no dams, such as Nan Province, which has the Sirikit Dam blocking it, causing Sukhothai Province to be affected. However, from the assessment, if the water volume in the past 3 weeks is confirmed, the water will definitely not flood Bangkok. Meanwhile, locals set up shop at the floodgate, and Ms. Paethongtarn went to gr eet them and offer encouragement, as well as help buy up products such as water, boiled corn, sticky rice and grilled pork. Ms. Paethongtarn then met and greeted the people who came to welcome her, saying, 'If anyone hasn't eaten or is thirsty, you can go and get some at the shop. They've already bought everything.' While the villagers who came to welcome him went to take photos and shake hands, some even said, 'I'm not afraid of the flood, I'm just afraid of not being able to see the beautiful Prime Minister. When I go home, I'll just do the laundry like usual. There's nothing to be afraid of.' As an uncle approached Ms. Paethongtarn and said, 'I cycled 10 kilometers to meet the Prime Minister. I prayed that Thaksin's son would become the Prime Minister.' The villagers there cheered, causing Ms. Paethongtarn to smile and tease, 'Are you a fortune teller?' Then, Ms. Paethongtarn and her group traveled to follow up on the water drainage situation from the Yom River to the Nan River at the Khlong Hok Baht wa ter gate. They listened to a report from the Royal Irrigation Department officials about the water drainage plan from the Yom River to the Nan River upstream. While Ms. Paethongtarn asked about the water drainage capacity of the water gate, the Royal Irrigation Department confirmed that the water gate can accommodate water from the old Yom River. Currently, there are officials monitoring the situation at the water gate. Later, Ms. Paethongtarn and her group traveled to visit the people in Wang Thong Subdistrict and Wang Yai Subdistrict and gave relief bags to the people affected by the flood at the Wang Thong Subdistrict Administrative Organization Disaster Relief Center. Upon arrival, she took photos with the staff who came to donate relief bags, including a photo with the volunteer kitchen before walking over to greet the villagers. This time, there were friends from the Mini NDC course who had previously helped flood victims. Ms. Paethongtarn wore a jacket from the Mini NDC course to give relief bags to both the Pheu Thai Party and the Mini NDC course. While giving the relief bags, a villager brought bananas and Nam Wa bananas to give to Ms. Paethongtarn, saying that they are famous products of Si Samrong District, symbolizing that whatever you do will come easy. Then, Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, Minister of Public Health, as the owner of the area, told the villagers that the Prime Minister had asked about the flood situation in Sukhothai Province and said that he wanted to come to the area to help the people. And after the Prime Minister received the position, but now he is still unable to perform his duties, so he cannot give orders because it may violate the law. He would like to be a representative of both the political side and the people in the area. Mr. Somsak said that what the locals want is a wall along the riverbank because if the wall along the riverbank is good, the water will not overflow because Wang Thong Subdistrict receives water flowing from Si Satchanalai District, Mueang District, and Sawan khalok District. If there is a wall of earth or concrete, it will help alleviate the damage. In addition, Ms. Paethongtarn also traveled to the disaster center of Sri Samrong District to greet the people and hand out relief bags. She also said that she wanted to express her concern, and that the agencies had already listened to all the problems. Today, she came to listen to the problems and give encouragement to everyone. She was glad to meet them and wanted to meet her brothers and sisters. She asked everyone to have a lot of encouragement and eat a lot so that they would have strength. We are all fighting. We will fight together. If there is an opportunity, she would like to come back and meet again. Ms. Paethongtarn also asked the children if they lacked anything, if they had enough snacks, which made the children nod. Ms. Paethongtarn then asked them if they knew what their names were, which made the children's mother whisper from behind that their names were Ung Ing. Ms. Paethongtarn replied that they were very good, before waving and walking to see where the road had been cut through by the water, and listening to information from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.
