Bangkok: The Palang Pracharath Party has issued a clarification regarding a photograph depicting General Prawit Wongsuwan at a wedding in Cambodia, stating that the image is outdated and was taken during a prior parliamentary session. The party emphasized that the event was part of official duties rather than a personal affair.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya Tawichai, spokesperson for the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), addressed the confusion surrounding the photograph, which also features Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda, former Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police. He explained that the image dates back to approximately 2016 or 2017, during which time Gen. Prawit was in Cambodia fulfilling a series of diplomatic missions and attending various national and regional meetings.
The spokesperson further elaborated that during this diplomatic trip, the delegation received an invitation to the wedding of Mr. Lyong Phat’s daughter, a businessman closely associated with then Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The party attended as honored international guests following a formal invitation, underscoring that the event was not of a personal nature.
General Prawit reportedly has no personal ties with Mr. Lyong Phat, whose involvement was limited to coordinating international meetings. Disseminating outdated images from these past diplomatic engagements could lead to potential misunderstandings. Additionally, in 2021, the Palang Pracharath government took significant measures against a major call center gang, implementing the Technology Crime Prevention and Suppression Act B.E. 2566 (2023). This legislation empowers officials and telecom providers to block suspicious numbers and assumes a greater responsibility for financial losses, thus reducing the public’s exposure to such risks.
