Bangkok: “Wan Nor” has addressed the recent corruption scandal involving the Parliament Savings Cooperative, assuring members that the 14 million baht corruption case has not adversely affected their transactions. He noted that the swift identification of the perpetrators has allowed for immediate action and emphasized that those responsible will face the full extent of the law.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wan Muhammad Noor Matha, President of the Parliament, discussed the issue with both the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General of the House of Representatives. He pointed out that the cooperative has historically operated without issues. However, in light of the recent corruption, the House is actively following up on the matter. A dedicated committee has been formed to investigate the case, identifying those who committed the offense for legal prosecution. The affected budget amounts to approximately 14 million baht.
Mr. Wan assured members and stakeholders that the cooperative remains largely unaffected, continuing to operate robustly for the benefit of its members. Efforts are underway to recover the 14 million baht and ascertain accountability. The untainted funds within the cooperative remain secure, underscoring the importance of vigilant oversight. Depositors and related parties can be confident that their interests are safeguarded.
He mentioned that the perpetrators were identified early, with confessions obtained. However, further investigation is necessary to uncover additional parties involved. Despite the 14 million baht embezzlement from a pool of several hundred million baht, Mr. Wan urged members to maintain confidence in the cooperative’s operations and to continue their usual financial activities.
Mr. Wan further elaborated that the cooperative’s stability hinges on member confidence. While he personally has no deposits with the cooperative, he stressed the importance of maintaining trust among the council’s personnel, including retired members who still hold deposits. The council’s leadership, including the president, vice president, secretary, and deputy secretary, are committed to ensuring the cooperative’s credibility and stability.
In conclusion, Mr. Wan reassured members that they should continue their engagements with the cooperative without concerns, as the board is diligently managing the situation. While the financial impact is minimal, ongoing vigilance and management are crucial to prevent future incidents.
