Pattaya: Pattaya has declared that prostitution in public places is illegal under Thai law, and has mobilized forces to crack down on beaches and Soi 2 in preparation for the arrival of US troops at the port in early September.
According to Thai News Agency, the USS Abraham Lincoln, deployed to the Middle East for the Iran-Iran war, is heading to Thailand after being at sea for over 250 days. It is scheduled to dock in early September. The USS Abraham Lincoln departed San Diego on November 21, 2025, and its crew is expected to remain at sea for six months. The US Navy reported that the ship made only one stop at Guam in mid-December, marking over 250 consecutive days at sea, a record for an aircraft carrier with limited port visits.
This stopover is a routine, planned visit to the port for personnel rest, recovery, and logistical support. It aligns with ongoing defense agreements and cooperation between Thailand and the United States. With approximately 5,000 personnel on board, the visit is anticipated to benefit local businesses, such as restaurants, entertainment venues, travel, and service sectors, potentially generating 5-15 million baht in revenue.
Last night, Ms. Chanchira Thaibandit, the Chonburi Provincial Social Development and Human Security Officer, along with over 20 representatives from related agencies, conducted a raid and inspection operation targeting illegal prostitution along Pattaya beach, Second Road, and other high-risk public areas. This operation focused on identifying individuals loitering, soliciting, or enticing prostitution on beachside sidewalks and in public spaces, a significant problem affecting the orderliness and image of Pattaya.
Officials found a number of offenders, including 5 Laotian nationals, 2 Ugandan nationals, and 18 Thai nationals, totaling 25 individuals. Regarding the enforcement of fines and settlements, officials proceeded according to the procedures and authority granted by relevant laws.
Meanwhile, Pol. Lt. Col. Siriwat Khachamat, Deputy Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, stated that the raid was a routine measure by Pattaya City Police Station to crack down on prostitution in public areas. He confirmed that this would not be a one-time event but would be increased in frequency and intensity continuously. He also urged residents and business owners in Pattaya to act as "good hosts," welcoming both Thai and foreign tourists with friendliness, respecting the law, and helping to maintain Pattaya's image as a safe, orderly, and trustworthy tourist city.
