Bangkok: In a recent statement, Prit, a prominent member of the People’s Party, underscored the party’s commitment to tackling scams while also holding the government accountable. Paritta, representing the party, emphasized the importance of both suppressing scammers and participating in the government’s censure debate, highlighting that the welfare of the people remains their top priority. He laid out three conditions for the government: convening an extraordinary session, amending the constitution in time for its third reading before parliament dissolution, or facing a no-confidence motion. Speaking on behalf of Sirikanya, Paritta mentioned the public’s ongoing efforts to investigate and clarify any doubts regarding the government’s actions.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Panusaya Wacharasindhu, a party-list MP and spokesperson for the People’s Party, expressed the party’s readiness to employ all parliamentary mechanisms to scrutinize Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s government. He detailed three conditions under which a no-confidence motion would be submitted. The first condition is if the government remains in power beyond January 31, 2026, without dissolving parliament. The second condition involves the failure to amend Chapter 15/1 of the Constitution, which would facilitate drafting a new constitution, by the end of the year. The third condition is if the government’s actions cause significant harm to the public or lack transparency.
Discussions with other parties, such as the Pheu Thai Party, are ongoing to align on the submission process and timeframe for a potential no-confidence debate. Mr. Pris noted that the Pheu Thai Party has the right to submit its own proposals, given its substantial number of MPs. He suggested that cooperation between parties sharing similar goals could be mutually beneficial.
The potential convening of a special session before December 12th remains uncertain, with its outcome pivotal to fulfilling the second condition. If the special session does not occur, the People’s Party will consider submitting a no-confidence motion. Mr. Pris indicated that the party is prepared to act swiftly if the constitutional amendment process is hindered.
Mr. Panusaya reiterated the People’s Party’s dual focus on constitutional amendments and combating scams, stating that both issues are of equal importance. He emphasized that the MOA’s success would benefit the public by fostering a political system that aligns with their needs. The party remains vigilant, ready to address any significant harm to the people over the next two months.
