Bangkok: In a heated debate over the ongoing PM 2.5 dust crisis, Phatthapong Leelaphat, a Chiang Mai MP from the Prachachon Party, criticized Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra for her handling of the issue. Phatthapong described her leadership as the most serious disaster Thailand is facing, accusing her of negligence and ineffectiveness in tackling the problem.
According to Thai News Agency, Phatthapong argued that the year 2024 presents several natural challenges for Thailand, such as major floods, droughts, and toxic dust. However, he highlighted that the leadership of Prime Minister Paethongtarn is a significant disaster affecting the nation’s people, property, and environment. He criticized the government’s inability to manage the PM 2.5 issue effectively, claiming that the leaders are more focused on personal and familial benefits than on resolving the crisis.
Phatthapong directly questioned Paethongtarn’s ability to learn from the mistakes of her predecessor, Mr. Settha Thavisin. Despite her previous role as the leader of the Pheu Thai Party, Phatthapong accused her of failing to address the government’s shortcomings and not fulfilling promises to tackle the dust problem. He challenged her claims of working on solutions and accused her of focusing on appearances rather than tangible results.
He further listed projects that he claimed did not align with the Prime Minister’s directives, urging her to show sincerity in addressing the PM 2.5 issue. Phatthapong argued that vague orders lead to a lack of respect and value from ministers and agencies, ultimately affecting the people.
Phatthapong emphasized the need for competent leadership and questioned the Prime Minister’s purpose if she is unwilling to take responsibility and strive for better air quality for the citizens. He concluded by urging Paethongtarn to resign, stating that her departure is necessary for the health and well-being of the nation.
