Bangkok: Phetkasem police have confirmed that Cheng Zhao Wu has legally obtained Thai citizenship through nationality verification. This development comes in the midst of an ongoing investigation into Mingchen Shan, a Chinese national, who is suspected of terrorism due to his possession of a large cache of weapons and explosives in Chonburi province.
According to Thai News Agency, the investigation into Shan has revealed videos of weapons training at a Cambodian military camp and GPT chat messages about planned sabotage acts. Additionally, authorities discovered a non-Thai identification card and a Thai national ID card under the name "Cheng Zhao Wu," prompting questions about the identities and the acquisition of these ID cards.
Phetkasem Police Station recently issued a press release addressing the situation involving Cheng Zhao Wu, a Chinese man with a Thai national ID card. The press release clarifies his legal Thai citizenship status, which has been confirmed through nationality verification.
Pol. Col. Pramote Chanboonkaew, Superintendent of Phetkasem Police Station, led an investigation at the address listed on Wu's ID card. The investigation verified that Wu legally acquired Thai citizenship through his grandfather's lineage and obtained his national ID card at the Bang Khae District Office, holding it since 2008.
Further investigations at the address on the ID card revealed it to be the residence of a family engaged in a wholesale communication equipment business. The family has stable jobs and no connection to Mingchen Shan, who was arrested with weapons in Chonburi.
