Bangkok: Pheu Thai Party has officially nominated Yotsanun Wongsawat as their primary candidate for the position of Prime Minister, marking a significant moment for the newcomer in the political arena. The party expressed confidence in Yotsanun’s ability to connect with the people and emphasized that any perceived ties to the Shinawatra family are not a hindrance but rather an opportunity. The party is optimistic about winning public support within two months and dismisses any influence from Yaowapa Wongswasdi. Suriya Jungrungruangkit remains optimistic about achieving the target of securing 200 seats.
According to Thai News Agency, the announcement came during the Pheu Thai Party’s “Revamping Pheu Thai, Revamping Thailand” event, where the three prime ministerial candidates presented their visions for the future. The candidates, including Chulaphan Amornvivat and Suriya Jungrungruangkit, alongside Yotsanun, addressed the press in a seated interview. Chulaphan identified Yotsanun as the most suitable candidate to lead Thailand out of conflict and into economic growth driven by AI and modern knowledge.
Yotsanun, despite his limited political experience, expressed confidence in his ability to connect with the public, emphasizing the importance of direct interactions over elections. He stated that understanding and incorporating the people’s needs into his policies would be key to winning their support.
Chulaphan highlighted that the party’s restructuring efforts have been ongoing, with a focus on communication, policies, and direction. He drew parallels to the success of former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s campaign, expressing confidence in the current candidates’ ability to achieve victory.
Yotsanun addressed concerns regarding his familial ties to the Shinawatra family, viewing it as an advantage. He emphasized his commitment to serving the Thai people and leveraging the strengths of both old and new generations within the party.
When questioned about potential influence from his mother, Yaowapa Wongswasdi, Yotsanun assured that his leadership would be independent, with a focus on driving the country forward through creativity, education, science, and technology.
Suriya noted the importance of technological expertise in modern politics and expressed confidence in Yotsanun’s vision for leading Thailand towards economic growth. He reiterated the party’s goal of securing 200 seats in the upcoming elections.
