Police Arrest Suspect in Connection to Murder of 7-Year-Old Nong Angun

Sangkhlaburi: Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of 7-year-old Nong Angun, whose body was discovered in a rubber plantation in the Sangkhlaburi District of Kanchanaburi Province. The body was found under a bamboo clump, approximately 200 meters from the road, opposite the Khao Yai Shrine. The suspect, a 40-year-old man, has been detained for questioning but has denied the charges.

According to Thai News Agency, forensic officers are currently examining a suspicious Isuzu pickup truck, which has Kanchanaburi license plates and is associated with the Ban Thikrong Buddhist monastery. The location where Nong Angun was found is only 700 meters from the monastery. As part of the investigation, police have also summoned three monks from the temple, the truck driver, and members of Nong Angun's family for questioning. The individuals were interrogated separately to determine any potential connections to the crime.

A significant clue in the investigation emerged from a village grocery store located nearly a kilometer from Nong Angun's home. The store owner reported that Nong Angun came alone to buy snacks with 40 baht, which was unusual as she typically shopped with a friend or older sibling. This behavior was confirmed by Nong Angun's mother, who expressed surprise at her daughter having 40 baht and being alone.

The case has attracted considerable public attention due to the young age of the victim. Pol. Gen. Thana Chuwong, Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, is expected to arrive to oversee the progress of the investigation, though his arrival has not yet been confirmed.
