According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at the Royal Thai Police headquarters is bustling due to the Police Civil Service Commission (PCSC) meeting this afternoon. Attention is focused on who will become the 16th Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, succeeding Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panpetch, who will retire on September 30th.
At 1:00 PM, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, in his capacity as Chairman of the Police Commission, will chair a meeting at the Sriyanon Meeting Room. The key agenda item is Agenda Item 4: the selection of the new Police Chief. Four police generals are vying for the position: Police General Nirandon Lueamsri, Police General Thatchai Pitanilabutr, Police General Samran Nualma (Deputy Police Chief), and Police General Itthipol Achariyapradit (Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police).
For the deliberation process, the Police Commission consists of 16 members. However, when the appointment agenda item was brought up, all four candidates had to leave the meeting room, leaving only 12 members to vote. Normally, the Chairman of the Police Commission does not exercise their right to vote, except in cases where the vote is tied, in which case the Chairman will cast the deciding vote.
After a conclusion is reached, the next step will be to submit the matter to His Majesty the King for his gracious approval and formal appointment.
