Police Search for Suspect After 72-Baht Gold Robbery in Sa Kaeo

Police in eastern thailand: are tracking a suspect who threw a smoke device and stole gold jewelry worth over 5 million baht ($150,000) from a shopping mall in Sa Kaeo province on Aug 27, authorities said.

According to Thai News Agency, security footage captured an individual wearing a plaid shirt, wig, and face mask entering a gold shop inside a mall in Aranyaprathet district around noon. The suspect deployed an explosive-like device that emitted noise and smoke before seizing 72 baht weight of gold necklaces and fleeing on an electric motorcycle.

Investigators traced the escape route into small village alleys and forested areas leading toward the border area. Police later discovered a partially burned shirt, hat, and wig among roadside trash, which are being forensically tested to confirm if they belong to the perpetrator.

Police Colonel Weepong Gongkaew, superintendent of the Aranyaprathet Police Station, said officers are coordinating with provincial investigators, local police, and military units monitoring border checkpoints to prevent any attempt to flee the country.
