Prasert Congratulates Thaksin on Royal Pardon and Release from Prison

Bangkok: Prasert Chantarawongthong, Minister of Education and Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, expressed his congratulations to former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on his release from prison following a royal pardon. Prasert emphasized that Thaksin's release is welcomed by all party members and leaders, who are pleased with this development. He mentioned that he had not yet spoken to Thaksin personally to offer his congratulations.

According to Thai News Agency, Prasert addressed the possibility of Thaksin advising and mentoring the Pheu Thai Party post-release. He noted that Thaksin maintains a close relationship with the party and is regarded as its spiritual leader, making interactions with him a normal occurrence. Prasert believes that Thaksin is unlikely to interfere in party affairs due to the existing structure and executive committee guiding the party.

Prasert also acknowledged the potential of seeking advice from Thaksin, recognizing his experience and knowledge as a former leader. He expressed willingness to consult Thaksin on certain matters if the opportunity arises. Despite Thaksin's influence, Prasert stressed that the party operates independently with its own governance.

Regarding discussions within the party, particularly with Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the leader of the Pheu Thai Party, Prasert mentioned that no detailed conversations have taken place following Thaksin's royal pardon. However, he confirmed that the party is collectively pleased with the news of Thaksin's release from prison.
