Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is set to travel to Nan tomorrow to address strategies for managing the ongoing flooding situation in northern Thailand. He has assured that comprehensive relief efforts will be undertaken, with provisions for additional funds from the Prime Minister's Office if provincial budgets prove inadequate, ensuring that all affected provinces are equipped with contingency plans.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul discussed the flood situation and his upcoming visit to Nan province, emphasizing coordination with key officials including Deputy Prime Minister Yotsanu Wongsawat, Minister of Agriculture Suriya Jungrungruangkit, and Deputy Minister of Interior Jetset Thaiseth. Anutin reported that conditions are improving and highlighted his directive to allocate funds for compensating the families of two individuals who lost their lives, ensuring they receive the highest possible compensation.
Anutin clarified that if provincial funds are insufficient, additional resources from the Prime Minister's Office and other agencies will be available. He emphasized that all provinces have prepared contingency plans for the flood season, with high-risk areas ready to declare emergencies and implement necessary measures. His visit to Nan is not to conduct firsthand inspections but to review progress and determine further central government support needed, with a meeting planned at the Nan Provincial Hall to discuss the broader regional response.
Anutin also touched upon the upcoming Cabinet meeting in Songkhla province, scheduled for the end of August, stating that discussions will extend beyond disaster relief to include economic stimulation and infrastructure development, covering agriculture, security, and other critical aspects affecting life in the southern border provinces.
