Putrajaya: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is set to visit Malaysia from July 9-10, 2026, heading a delegation to discuss cooperation, promote border economy, trade, and security, and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on agriculture aimed at improving the quality of life for citizens.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs Anutin Charnvirakul's visit to Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur will involve discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The visit's primary goal is to strengthen the relationship between the two nations and enhance cooperation in economic and security sectors, ultimately benefiting the quality of life for their people.
The Prime Minister's Office spokesperson highlighted that Malaysia is Thailand's top trading partner within ASEAN, with both nations sharing strong ties across various dimensions. The visit is seen as a crucial opportunity to build on existing collaboration and explore new areas for mutual benefit. This initiative aims to boost competitiveness, prepare for external economic fluctuations, create economic opportunities, and improve long-term quality of life for citizens of both countries.
Key areas of focus for Thailand during the visit include promoting trade and investment, agriculture, food and energy security, transportation and logistics development, border economies and security, and addressing issues in the southern border provinces.
The spokesperson further explained that the visit will involve high-level representatives from numerous agencies aiming to expedite negotiations with Malaysian counterparts, ensuring swift progress in cooperative efforts.
Ms. Ratchada emphasized the Prime Minister's commitment to achieving tangible outcomes from overseas visits. These visits are designed to address challenges, eliminate operational barriers, open markets, and create new opportunities for Thai citizens and businesses, leading to economic growth, job creation, and sustainable improvements in quality of life.
On the morning of July 9, 2026, the Prime Minister and his delegation will depart from Military Airport 2, Wing 6, to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The delegation will engage in small group discussions, a full plenary session, an MOU signing on agriculture, and a joint press conference at the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya.
Later that evening, the Prime Minister will meet with Thai and Malaysian business representatives in Malaysia to discuss proposals, exchange views, and explore opportunities for enhancing business cooperation between the two countries.
On July 10, 2026, the Prime Minister and his delegation will travel to the new Sadao Customs checkpoint in Songkhla province to inaugurate the road connecting it with the Bukit Kayu Hitam checkpoint, alongside the Malaysian Prime Minister. This significant project aims to improve border connectivity. Following the ceremony, a luncheon hosted by the Malaysian side will precede the delegation's return to Bangkok.
