Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has launched a nationwide campaign aimed at ending violence against children, women, and family members by 2025. He called on all sectors of Thai society to unite in creating a safe environment by eliminating violence without resorting to violent means.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister Anutin, who also serves as Minister of Interior, emphasized the need for collective efforts during a speech marking the “Campaign to End Violence against Children, Women, and Family Members” for the year 2025. He highlighted the importance of the United Nations-designated “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women” on November 25, which aims to raise global awareness about violence, harassment, and injustice faced by women and girls. The Prime Minister encouraged Thai citizens to speak out against all forms of violence and harassment.
In Thailand, the government has designated November as the “Month of Campaign to End Violence Against Children and Women” since a Cabinet resolution on June 29, 1999. This initiative is meant to heighten public awareness and motivate collective action to eradicate violence within Thai society.
Domestic violence, recognized as a significant issue, adversely affects victims and is a root cause of numerous societal and economic challenges. The government has implemented various measures to monitor, protect, and provide redress for victims while promoting strong family bonds and instilling positive societal values. Efforts also include fostering collaboration among agencies and networks to develop concrete solutions.
Prime Minister Anutin also addressed the rising threat of digital violence, noting the increased accessibility of digital technology and the potential for cyber threats to facilitate domestic violence. This year’s campaign theme, “Ending Digital Violence for Women and Girls,” underscores the importance of vigilance against digital threats.
The campaign aims to build love, understanding, and compassion within families and society, acting as a protective shield against all forms of violence. It seeks to strengthen family institutions as a foundational element for Thai society’s long-term stability.
The Prime Minister extended an invitation to all Thai citizens to join efforts in ending violence peacefully. He urged families to foster communication and understanding to address challenges and conflicts without resorting to violence, thereby ensuring a harmonious, high-quality life in a safe and peaceful society.
