Bangkok: The Prime Minister emphasized that the government is working as a team to expedite the construction of the Bang Ban-Bang Sai drainage canal, with completion expected in 2026. During a visit to Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, the Prime Minister inspected the flooding situation and underscored the government’s collaborative efforts across party lines to accelerate relief and implement sustainable solutions. The construction of the Bang Ban-Bang Sai drainage canal, anticipated to be completed by 2026, is a critical part of these efforts. The project will use a budget of hundreds of billions of baht to develop irrigation systems and improve water management.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul led a delegation to Bang Ban District, accompanied by key government officials including Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Surasak Pancharoenworakul, and Deputy Ministers of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation Songsak Thongsri and Sakda Wichiensri. They were welcomed by local leaders including Governor Niwat Rungsakorn and Mrs. Somsong Pancharoenworakul, President of the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provincial Administrative Organization. Mr. Thawiwong Tothawiwong, Member of Parliament for the Prachachon Party, also attended the event.
Upon arrival at Wat Kokhiran, the Prime Minister was greeted by residents who offered him roses and sang the village health volunteer march. They expressed their support with chants of “We love the Prime Minister” and took selfies with him. The Governor of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya reported on the local water situation, confirming the area is low-lying and requesting compensation for flood-affected residents.
The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the recurring flooding in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, which is a catchment area for the upper Chao Phraya River. He discussed plans to develop flood mitigation projects and highlighted the role of the National Water Resources and Environmental Policy Committee in managing flood situations.
Anutin Charnvirakul assured that emergency budgets are available to assist flood victims and emphasized the importance of swift disbursement of funds. He highlighted his understanding of the urgency from his previous role as Minister of the Interior and assured that procedures have been streamlined to expedite assistance.
The Prime Minister discussed long-term flood solutions, including the construction of the Bang Ban and Bang Sai drainage canals, which aim to enhance drainage capacity and prevent future flooding. The project is expected to cost over 100 billion baht over seven years, comparable to current annual flood relief budgets.
Anutin reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing public concerns and emphasized collaboration among government officials, regardless of party affiliation. He encouraged voters to support leaders who prioritize public welfare and efficient decision-making.
The Prime Minister concluded his visit by inspecting flood damage and delivering aid to affected residents in Bang Chani Subdistrict.
