Bangkok: The Prime Minister recently criticized individuals live-streaming and disseminating misinformation about the Thai-Cambodian border, labeling them as a "social menace." Meanwhile, Anutin Charnvirakul, who is also the Minister of Interior, commended the Thai military for its restraint amid ongoing provocations by Cambodian soldiers. He also addressed the government's lack of investigation into allegations involving Thai politicians and a gambling den at Chong Sangam, as raised by a "Kung Fu MP." Anutin dismissed these rumors, emphasizing the government's robust intelligence and downplaying the significance of such claims in discussions of national security.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin assured the public that the situation on the Thai-Cambodian border is under control, with security forces and the military fully responsible for safeguarding the nation's borders. He urged that future negotiations follow due process, adding that Thailand is not suffering from the delayed border negotiations, despite the cancellation of the 2001 MOU. Anutin reaffirmed the government's commitment to maintaining Thailand's strength and preventing any inconvenience to its citizens.
Anutin also addressed a recent incident where Cambodian soldiers prevented Thai soldiers from marking the border at Chong Bok in Ubon Ratchathani province, resulting in a heated argument. He described such provocations as a daily occurrence, attributing them to strained relations between the two countries. Anutin highlighted the importance of patience and calmness, noting that Thai officials and soldiers have consistently demonstrated restraint, bolstering Thailand's reputation as a strong, respected nation.
When questioned about the concerns of border residents regarding Cambodian military provocations, Anutin reassured that there is no cause for alarm. He emphasized the current peace along the border, contrasting it with the situation last year. Anutin referenced the ceasefire agreement signed on December 28, 2025, which has ensured no incidents of concern since its implementation.
Regarding allegations by Mr. Sawat Phuangphornsri, an MP from the Thai Ruam Palang Party, about the Chong Sangam gambling den's links to Thai politicians, Anutin dismissed the claims as minor fabrications. He stressed the government's focus on intelligence, border defense, and national security, asserting the military's readiness and capabilities. Anutin highlighted the government's actions against scammers, noting significant asset seizures and prosecutions. He criticized reliance on rumors, arguing it hampers progress.
When pressed about the need for further investigation into the allegations of political involvement, Anutin stated that it falls under the police's jurisdiction, expressing confidence in their capabilities over those live-streaming misinformation. He criticized individuals causing societal disruption through live streams, suggesting they pose a threat to society and should face psychiatric evaluation. Anutin questioned their motives, whether for attention or other reasons.
